About Danielle I grew up in a small town in the Midwest, near Chicago. After a degree in psychology at DePaul University, I studied photography at Columbia Collage Chicago and EFET in Paris, where I am currently based. I shoot interiors, travel, and editorial projects. In parallel to commissions, I have several series of self-portraits that have evolved mainly through artist residencies and are linked through the quest for allowing yourself space to create, pushing through the inner conflicts to finding your own voice. Whatever the subject, I aspire to create images of poetry. Robert Frank articulated the feeling well, in the November 1951 issue of Life when he said, “When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” And when Jay Maisel said, “There was a phrase that Arthur Miller used – ‘I’m trying to create the poem from the evidence.’ I’m not trying to change anything that’s in front of me, I’m trying to give it respect and I’m trying to call attention to it.” I hope for my photography to be a place you want to spend time. A space of grace and light. And I think these qualities can be found anywhere we choose to look. Children’s Portraits I see and capture the quiet, poetic moments of childhood. There are times when the children are looking at me and smiling, but more often it’s the contemplative, curious moments that I find. Children aren’t posing, they’re not yet aware of the camera, so you can get down on the ground with them and hang out on their level and be a witness to their evolving relationship with the world. All we need is time. Sessions are 350€, 2-3 hours long and include up to two close-proximity locations. It could be a park that has lush green space and also a playground. Les Buttes Chaumont is great for variety. It could be along the Seine and a café. It could be in your home and local park. Nature should be included in the shoot, as that’s where children have so much to discover. With the fee, I include a selection of 60-80 images delivered in high resolution digital files with a basic retouch, as well as 6 10x15cm fine art prints of images that you get to choose. The photos will be both black & white and color, and it’s usually the photo that dictates this choice. Please email me directly for more details.
